Thank you so much for reminding us what exactly attachement parenting is - very refreshing. Finally, a defintion I can relate to and one that doesnt exclude me because I never wore my baby much.

Wow Gina, I had no idea! What a lovely article. It has been awesome to see you and Henry at La Leche League meetings this past year. You're an incredible mama who has clearly overcome some significant challenges- well done!

your argument is so full of holes I'm amazed you didn't see it when you typed it out.
i don't have any issue with what was in the bottle, you recognize this point. so how could i have an issue with formula, whoever feeds it to the child?
i don't know who you are arguing with, but its not me.

It makes every difference what was in the bottle, as I said before the fact is that the health benefits come from drinking breast milk and not from what the breast milk is drunk from. Fact is that those who wanted the bit cut leapt the the conclusion that it was formula in the bottle *with no evidence*. Another fact is that "bottle feeding" in the context is a misnomer, what they're actually against is the use of formula so by censoring the segment they're blurring what could be a very simple message.

If Piri has that right, don't we all? Can't you/won't you see the cognitive dissonance?

You still haven't addressed my question, what do you have against fathers feeding their children? Do you honestly think that babies should starve until their mother returns?

Yes, it is a celebrity we're talking about and people will emulate him - what's wrong with fathers helping out with feeding?

Fact is that until the fuss was made and Piri admitted the bottle contained formula and why, for all anyone knew it could've been expressed milk so no, your argument that the censorship was to keep "their messages consistent" also holds no water. The only way fathers can feed their infants is with a bottle and those who say that's wrong are the very definition of sexist.

oh for heavens sake, plunkett, lll and the college of midwives are all trained to support breastfeeding, the were asked for their advice, they gave it. end of story.
until the press got hold of it.
no one ever criticised bottle feeding they just said it wasn't a good idea for a man of Piri's stature and influence to be seen bottle feeding on a government health campaign, whatever it was for.
had the photo been for a regular article nothing would have happened. who shouted loudest, was rudest, most defamatory? who resorted to name calling and vile comparisons with the gestapo and nazis? certainly not any breastfeeders i saw. but i did see foul language and unfounded allegations made about just about anybody who had a good word to say about breastfeeding, even if they specified they had no problem with bottle feeding

Yes! That exactly. And it's all so poorly written - the butchering of the English language grates almost as much as the intent behind it. NZ journalistic standards have slipped so far in recent years that they seem unrecoverable. It's a concern when your mainstream media behave as though they were tabloids.

Once again the do gooders have to jump on the band wagon. It is a mothers choice on how they will feed their baby, breast or bottle and it is not up to the general public to make that decision for them. Freedom of choice is what is called and we live in a liberal society. Perhaps we need to focus more on what is going on in our country at present and that is the shocking baby and child abuse figures we have!,
